Cancer is the ugliest word in my world. It is affecting our lives daily. John and I both have parents fighting metastasized cancer - cancer so horrible it is attacking beyond the point of origin, making it harder to find treatments and harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel - making it hard for us to see into our futures - and obviously, making their lives hard, beyond what we can imagine. My father and his mother are fighters, and we are blessed to have them in our lives. Throughout this process, community, fellowship, and support have become key to their comfort - and not having support or losing support has caused the most hurt, for both of them.
Luckily for my dad, he and my mom have found friendship, support, and care at Gilda's Club Kansas City. I encourage you to make a donation to Gilda's in honor of those in your life who have battled or are battling cancer - so that no one faces cancer alone.
